  • A Serious Novel with an Intriguing Premise

As with Ms. Willis's other novels, "Lincoln's Dreams" is extremely well written, with an intriguing premise -- i. e., that a modern young woman is somehow receiving Robert E. Lee's dreams. (Lincoln's dreams don't come into the plot until later.) The principal characters are engaging, and an attentive reader will quickly begin to empathize with them. My only caveat is that, unlike "To Say Nothing of the Dog" (my favorite Willis opus by far), "Lincoln's Dreams" is thoroughly serious, without the lighthearted humor and charming romance of "Dog." Nonetheless, for anyone looking for a novel that will keep them on the edge of their seat, "Lincoln's Dreams" will not disappoint.
