For privacy over short distances it's unbeatable, for ease of use and durability look elsewhere
The Pros: It's small, and light. Uses a technology that is highly unique frequency hopping technology which allows for 10 billion private channel combinations. Built in NOAA weather radio reception. Rechargeable lithium batteries are available through 3rd party retailers.
The Cons: Not compatible with other brands. The back light is orangish/yellow and not changeable which is a disappointment. The interface and it's operation take some getting used to. Battery covers are not as snug as you would expect to find if it were commercial grade gear. Radios also do not always fit snug in the charging stand. Belt clips pop in but do not have a commercial grade feel of durability. The company is also out of business so any repair work would have to be done through other parties.
Bottom Line: If you're big on privacy, and I am, short of high grade commercial or military grade encryption these are the radios you want. For consumer level privacy these units are still currently unmatched to my knowledge. For me personally that factor negates these radios other short comings. If you're looking for commercial or military grade durability these radios are not for you. They are however still reasonably durable say for a family camping trip or outing. If you're looking for custom options or customer service you won't find them since the company is out of business.
