Feel flimsy but do the job
Having insulation block internal walls should be a good thing, but anyone who has tried to get a good fixing (curtain pole brackets........?), will know there are downsides. My house has plasterboard dot and dabbed over, which provides additional challenges. I've tried normal screw plug type fixings, and they just don't work. Several radiator brackets have been re-plugged so many times they've created a large hole in the internal wall that I could fit my hand through. I saw these advertised and was hopeful - I didn't realise they existed, and I needed to fit a new handrail up the stairs. Maybe I could avoid using unsightly big chunks of wood, and fit nice shiny brackets straight to the wall? At first I wasn't convinced. They're plastic, feel flimsy as you screw them into the pilot hole (so much so they warp sometimes), but as long as you manage to get them flush with the walls surface, they work well. The handrail I fitted feels very sturdy after a month of use. I wouldn't have dreamed of fitting it with normal plugs.
