Great TrueNAS storage unit. I said that it is not quiet because it is a little loud. Is it painfully loud no its tollerable. You can look on youtube if you really want to quiet it down. There was a video on how to quite it down if you want too. I use it for a SAN for my network because of the ISCSI interface to my windows file server. So far the performance of it is pretty good and the amount of ram is more than the amount of storage I have. The on I scratched built didn't have enough ram in the system. This has plenty of ram if you are planning on large amount of storage or planning on running jails/docker images depending on which version of truenas you are running.
This unit can handle 45 3.5 drives. It can handle at least 10TB drives. All you need is a PC with a sas controller. 45 drives on one controller. Works great. Was in perfect working condition and fired up first time. The 1400 watt power supplies are surprisingly quiet, but the internal fans for the HDs make lots of noise. They are not designed to be quiet, they keep the drives cool. I added my own fan speed controllers and monitor drive temperature to keep it a lot quieter. Still overall really loud, but that isn't a knock, in a server room you wouldn't hear it over the din of the others. A great purchase. I drive it with a seperate Supermicro server with a 9750-4i4e RAID card.
