I bought this lens because I do a lot of event work where people are milling about and getting in your way sometimes and you need to get a photo of a person in the front of the room who is making a statement. all you have is a step ladder and the lens on your camera to get over the heads of the people in front of you. I consider this to be a very affordable lens for the quality you get. I'ts definitely got some heft and it's been a great lens since I purchased it... But what i'm most surprised about is the amazing images I'm getting SOOC (straight out of camera) for portraiture photos. Almost PERFECT focus (that's the best I can do, I don't believe in "PERFECT")and the Bokeh is amazing with the lens being at 2.8 from 200 mm. Talk about blowing out the background!!!!

This is a good lens and exceeds in performance for the value. The mounting ring has significant wear and doesn't always interface with the camera. The lens itself is in excellent condition. Despite the wear on the mounting ring, the lens is excellent for tripod work. For freehand, I have to make sure the lens is interfacing or it will not take pictures.

If you don't image stabilization and are working in good light, this lens delivers great images. In not-so-good light, it can hunt for a focus point, but when it's on, the results are good. If you're using a Nikon DX camera without a focus motor (the 3xxx and 5xxx series, for example), this is the most affordable f2.8 telephoto zoom you can get, with the added bonus that you can still use it if you move up to FX.

This lense is an amazing value. It's good build quality (in my opinion better than Nikon's DX telephoto lenses). The image is sharp. The lense's main weakness in my mind is auto focus. It uses a fairly loud motor and struggles in low light conditions, often jittering non-stop. It might take a few tries tries of on your camera trigger to get the right focus. In better lighting conditions the AF is much better. It's also worth noting that the lens doesn't have image stabilization. If you are a photographer whoes on a budget this lens is perfect for you.

Have now shot 2 Friday night high school football games with it. It is quick to focus ---sharp photos-lightweight. Using it with Nikon D300 and D7200 . Have not been dissapointed with it yet. Like it better than my previous 2.8 70-200 --which was a Sigma Have been shooting Sports since 1996. Wore out 2 Sigma's--Have a fixed Nikon 300mm 2.8 for longer shots.
