Now this is really useful, and at a very reasonable price, too. These are for drilling countersunk holes in wood (and similar materials). The drills are slightly tapered, so that the tapered thread of the woodscrew can bite all the way down. The countersink bit is adjustable along the drill shaft, so that the screwhole depth is fully presettable. BUT - the thing that I really like is that there is an adjustable collar on the countersink bit, so that the countersink part of the hole can be recessed as much as you like, allowing the screwhead to be covered by a wooden plug! If you don't want the recess, you don't have to have it. The whole set comes in a lovely little plywood box complete with hinges and catch. This will take a proud place in my garage. I recommend this to the amateur woodworker.Read full review

I can not recommend these at all. They are blunt, very blunt, and struggle to get through the softest of wood. They do not use a traditional twist bit, which I think is the problem, the bits are very smooth with just one cutting surface that runs the length of the bit in a very narrow spiral. They work so hard that they get very hot, not a good sign for any cutting tool. The box they came in is the best thing about this product. I'm sure they could be sharpened, I've yet to try. If you are looking for this type of tool, do yourself a favour and get the ones with the traditional drill bits, drill bits that were actually designed to drill into wood. Having said all that, I think you could swap out these bits for the traditional twist bits, but why should you have to, might as well buy ones with them in the first place. Not badly priced, but offer poor value for money as they are so blunt. The quality of the tool itself is ok, quite sturdy, although the depth stops often work loose, as does the countersink bit itself. Overall, not too impressed. I will try to swap the bits and see if that makes them any better.Read full review

The depth colar on the countersink is fiddly and hard to lock on level. The depth adjustment is only good at the top of the bit, so no good if you want to drill a shallow hole with countersink (e.g. 1/2 inch 6 screw) - you can only go at best almost full depth, so need to use a separate drill and countersink to get a short hole. Haven't tried to see if the countersink will fit on a standard drill bit instead of the supposedly super-tapered bits in the set ... Worked moderately well on wood, with the couple of bits I've tried, but hopeless on MDF - just smoking from the hole. Had to use a normal drill bit to get through, so didn't even try the countersink bit of it, just used a separate countersink. The set is very neatly stored in a wooden case, with the allen key to adjust them. Can't say on durability but suspect that they will not be a 'forever' purchase!Read full review

Never used this sort of combination bit before so I had no idea what to expect. Took a bit of practice to work out how to set up - and I've only used it once and that was on a drill press and the result was not satisfactory (which could have been down to me setting it up incorrectly). Drilled with more difficulty than a simple wood bit and the countersink needed further work to define the hole. As I said, this could all be down to "operator" error. Will try more experiments, but so far I'm not over impressed.

Despite initial high expectations i was particularly unimpressed with their ability to drill a hole even in pine. The single flute appeared to be the primary issue causing the drill to wobble side to side in your hand as the bit was pressed into the wood, and thereby not drill a centred hole. The flute didn't seem to be effective at dispelling the waste resulting in an excessive amount of pressure needing to be applied to force the bit into the timber. This was sadly true of all 7 bits. They did however have reasonable depth stop collets and countersink capability. The wooden box was also a plus. But since the purpose was to acquire a tapered drill bit set, this in my view fell wide of the mark. My recommendation and indeed personal intent is to spend more on a dual flute set where suitable reviews and demonstrations can be found on Youtube. Read full review
