My Selmer super action 80 series two soprano was supplied with a standard Selmer mouthpiece . I was unable to produce notes below bottom D or above top D . I tried Rico royal reeds strength 1.5 and 2.5 without success , so following advice from other experienced sax players , I selected a mouthpiece with a wide tip opening longer lay , went up to a 3.5 Rico royal reed . The instrument plays with a more breathy sound and i can now play down to bottom B flat and top F more reliably , however I need a vice like ombrochier to keep the intonation in tune in the upper register .I hope that many hours of practice with long notes will strengthen my technique . The soprano is a serious challenge compared to my mk6 Tenor and Mk6 Alto ,and clarinet , but the yamaha mouthpiece has helped .
