The full eight-hour version of contemporary British composer Max Richter's highly-acclaimed 'Sleep'. Fashioned as 'an eight-hour lullaby' by its composer, 'Sleep' is scored for piano, strings, electronics and vocals - but no words. 'It's a manifesto for the slower pace of existence,' says Richter, who has previously referred to the work as 'my personal lullaby for a frenetic world.'
This is just such an amazing piece. More than just ambient, certainly not background music, this is sound that works subliminally and induces the most serene responses in any listener that it makes you totally re-evaluate which things are the most important in your life. It's like resting in a flotation pool with no telephone and no internet to demand your attention. You simply drift on this tide of sonic calm - time stands still, problems evaporate (or at least are put on hold) and you can simply exult in your own 'being'. Yes, it's that good - it should be prescribed on the NHS for all who need an antidote to this manic world.
Not played the whole eight hours yet but what I have is brilliant.
Sublime, moving, relaxing, words cannot describe this beautiful music.
Expensive, but really worth it.
