  • Up to you!

I've read seen a LOT of negative reviews of this system, so I kind of feel obligated to give an average Joe's point of view. Yes, this is a plastic stock. Yes, it feels kind of cheap and toyish. It is not some high end custom made kit that cost eight or ten times as much. It's a hundred dollar plastic kit that's intended to turn one of the most rugged, dependable 223 long guns ever built into an effective self defense bullpup. And it does that. With...a little help. It works right out of the box and it totally changes the feel of a Mini 14. Makes it a super compact, super well balanced short gun for clearing a dark hallway. And while I'm not sure it actually is, it FEELS a lot lighter with the weight back at the shoulder than it does with the factory Mini stock on it. But it's kind of fiddlie to get together. Fortunately the ol' interweb has several videos on how to do it. Watch um! The problem is, straight out of the box, the kit does NOT work very well and It takes a lot of tinkering to smooth up enough to make it worthy of the Mini 14. Again, there are several videos and blogs on how to improve the kits and I'd suggest you do them all. Really makes a difference in how the kit feels and functions. Especially that nasty trigger pull issue. Mini14's triggers aren't that good in the first place. This transfer system does not improve that at all. But just take your time, be precise and careful with each mod and you can get it lot better. It's well worth the effort. You see warnings that some magazines won't work with the kit, even from Muzzelite. However, I've tried 5, 20, 30 and even 40 round magazines in both steel and plastic and they ALL work. I think that warning is just for some banana clips with the system on a 10/22. However, mags ARE a lot harder to get in and out with this kit. But I think that's probably more my problem than the kit. Putting a mag in a Mini 14 is kind of a pain compared to just slapping one home into an AR-15 anyway, Having it back behind the pistol grip does NOT help the tilt, rock and lock motion required for the Ruger. But, I'm practicing. ;~) The stock seems to be well thought out and designed. Just a little under engineered. I holds the Mini's works securely in place and when I remounted the light to the side of the barrel and scope to the scope mount, the beam of the light is exactly where it should be in the field of view of the scope. So apparently, the manufactures understand simple geometry. ;~) But I am going to add a couple of tabs and screws at a couple places to stiffen it a bit and take out flex in the pistol grip and recoil pad area. When handled, it makes an annoying squeak that MUST go. A good coat of truck bed liner helps that too. ;~) To sum it up, this will not turn your old Ruger into a 2 thousand dollar Tavor or Steyr or something. I do think that for the average guy that wants to give their old Mini 14 a new life as a super compact, house clearing zombie zapper on the cheap, this kit will fit the bill. If you aren't afraid to try it, have a little skill and patients, you should be able to tweak the stock to do what you need. But just how well it works and satisfied you are with it is down to your expectations. It is totally up to you! Good luck!
