Had one from another seller with a fat pointed end and didn't work due to the end. This one works fine as it has a small end that actually digs into the soil to start off the hole. Dug 1 hole with no issues. More to dig but after 1st hole in sure I'll be digging the rest in no time. Don't buy any others make sure you buy this type. Good product.

With the long, wet, winter the garden has resembled an Alabama swamp, minus the gators. I bought this tool with a mind to bore through the clay to some decent sub surface with more drainage. 3 feet down, and still clay! Plan B was to drill several strategic sumps to allow excess water to fill these rather than flood the lawn. half a dozen 3 feet holes dug, and this tool has preformed admirably. Yes, it was heavy going, but it was almost solid clay. I have no doubt that clearing a few holes in decent earth for fence posts (ie, it's actual design purpose) would be a pretty easy task, and a lot cheaper than renting a motorised one that is probably going to try and throw you across the garden when it hits a decent sized stone! Overall I'd certainly recommend this tool to anybody that doesn't mind having to apply a bit of elbow grease to get the job done.Read full review

My garden was the heap from a working clay pit and the ground has a large percentage of old broken bricks or clay pipes. This auger takes the work out of digging as you can hear it crunching through the rubble. You can use it to loosen the ground before digging out then finish with a spade or if you drill down a bit pull out the auger, shake of the soil and go down a bit further , repeat , repeat. It works amazingly. This is better than any pick axe and you get a hole the size of an agricultural fence post. Great for posts or tree stakes. So easy to use and very sturdy.

I help to run a Summer Fayre for our local church, quite a big affair, it's grown over the 28 years that it has been going. With the ground conditions as we have at the moment we needed something to help get about fifty big wooden posts into the ground. So the auger did a great job getting an initial foot into the ground, then a few bangs with a four handed post dumper did the job nicely. The auger was certainly a bargain as far as we were concerned!

This is a good value auger that will make its way through some solid soil. I used it to bore down about 3 feet into slate which was a pain, but I managed it. The T- bar across the top will not stay put; the supplied screw to hold it in place is pointless, and the length is quite short. This makes deep holes a challenge. Overall, I would use this if aiming to save money on renting or buying a motorised one; just be aware it will take a lot of effort to get a small hole if the ground is hard.
