Land Rover Steering Drop Arm Ball Joint Removal Tool This special tool facilitates easy removal of the ball joint on the steering box drop arm. The ball joint is removable, but it is often difficult to remove the race that the ball joint runs in. This tool is perfect for removing and refitting the new one into the drop arm with ease. Simply remove the nut and bot from the top of the joint, the circlip and base from the bottom of the joint, and the main ball and bolt will fall out. This tool is then used to pull the old ball joint race out from inside the arm, and press the new one in. For best results keep the threads oiled and clean the inside of the drop arm thoroughly. Get this tool to do this job!
I tried to do this job with a nut/bolt and some sockets. Don’t try it this way - it’s very hard to keep anything aligned - this tool makes it so easy and I wish I’d bought it initially.
