  • Great Product

Very good quality. I have used this several times since purchase on various electrical items. Very easy to use and great temperature control. Variety of tips supplied allow you to use this iron for almost any soldering type jobs from circuit boards to heavy duty repairs. Highly recommended

  • Soldering iron

I purchased this higher wattage iron because I have gone through two lower wattage items and they were hard work to create good joints. I purchased this soldering station because I was about to undertake the build of a guitar amplifier which I purchased in kit form. Success on both counts the soldering station I cannot fault, it made the job so much easier and I have completed the amp build. I would recommend the soldering station with no hesitation.

  • Time Will Tell

This is really good for the price but does take a fair while to reach the temperatures. I find it is best to leave it set on 350c for the chisel tips and the finer tips you need it higher. I knew it was only a Chinese import but it seems to be well built and a British plug is nice to see, especially a safe plug with no sheath around any part of the earth prong. I don't think the transformer inside is very large as the case is not so large but I didn't expect this to be a large professional model. I just need it for the odd job around the home so maybe it will last me many years and the seller does keep spare tips and spare parts for it too. When I first turned it on it smoked from the top of the tip the base of the element tube for about 10 minutes but it does warn you about this and is quite natural. The smoke does not harm you but try not to inhale it as it is from the grease when assembled. Expect to wait a goof 5 minutes for it to reach it's temperature and once it is hot and as long as you keep the tip cleaned and tinned it will be fine. If you can please use 0.7mm solder with flux and use 40/60 and never use plumbers solder. for heavier use you can use 1mm solder but this is a matter of preference and on small joints you might want 0.5mm. Lead is being banned in the UK soon so stock up on your lead/tin solder because when it is banned I assure you that the extra heat needed for lead free solder will be more dangerous than the lead itself. Over all I would recommend this soldering station to anyone who uses at home but I would not recommend it for a professional. I will come back in a few weeks and update my review should I need to or if anything goes wrong I will let you know. Incidentally please do not listen to the people who say the sponges are no good. The damp sponges to clean the tips are wonderful but keep it damp and clean and buy some new spare ones from eBay. I have seen them as little as 99p for 10 and free postage from China. The tips fit fairly loosely and not as tight as I would have liked and maybe that is the reason it takes a long time to heat up. Once hot though it is fine. As I say do not let the smoke worry you when you first use it and try to have a window open. Also you will notice the heating element outer tube will soon get discoloured. This is quite normal as these do get hot.

  • KATSU 58W SOLDERING STATION

As a beginner getting more into soldering I bought this for more wattage that my last cheepo iron. This works great, heats up fast and the temperature is ok for soldering 14 16 AWG cable onto DNA boards, 510 connections and battery contacts. I'm glad i bought this

  • Lightweight and low price.

This is great value for money, the best soldering iron that I have ever had, and within my budget. Soldering stations used to be a lot more expensive than this, and only for companies to afford. It's good to have the extra bits for it as well, saves having to buy some for a while. Really nice and light weight too. You can't tell from the picture, that the iron doesn't plug into the base, which is a shame, but that isn't a major problem, unless you want that.

  • Good all-in-one soldering kit

Good all-in-one soldering kit. The spring stand has a metal tube inner to provide double protection, and the sponge keeps the iron tip free of solder (wet before use). Good value, and delivered promptly.

  • Works well.

Only used a couple of times but find temperature adjustment useful. Seems well made for the price. Extra tips also a good addition.

  • Great value solder station

Works well on my modeI railway engineering and other diy tasks. It takes just a few minutes to warm up. The temperature control works well, once you get to know what he dial setting will deliver. The temperature seems to hold consistently at the dialled setting. The base is safely stable, considering that it is quite small. The solder iron is very easy to handle, although the cable is a bit stiff. The coiled wire holder works well if you bend it up slightly to be nearer to the upright, say about 70 to 80 degrees from the horizontal. This makes the whole unit more stable, and prevents the handle and cable from protruding awkwardly. I bought the version with four additional tips, which I consider essential. You will get a a spare fine tip plus three different tips. This is obviously for the diy market, and not for the professional. However, for little money, it works very well.
