  • Best Cookbook Ever

My Mom had a cookbook like this in the 50's, I had the next issue which was Betty Crocker's NEW Picture Cookbook. Pretty much the same recipes, but with a different cover, so I can truthfully say that Betty Crocker taught me how to cook. Unfortunately, after 40 years of use, I used my cookbook to death. Some people think that old recipes must not be as good, but not so. The old recipes are usually the best, and this is a cookbook that a person could, and would want to use every day. Good old down-home cooking. It can teach you how to make simple things like gravy meatloaf all the way up to fancy dishes, so it could be the only cookbook a person would ever need. I compared this new reproduction cookbook with an old version of it. The pages in the new version are much whiter, so easier to read. Even though the book is a little smaller and not as thick, the type seems to be a little bigger, which also makes for easier reading. I really do believe this is the best cookbook in the U.S.

  • Great cookbook!

I have observed my mom using this book when I was little and now I use it in my kitchen. I love it ! It is my go to book when I want to find a recipe or check something out. It contains great, usable, practical recipes. But you can find anything you want in here. I bought this as a gift for my brother, who was also looking for the same book to add to his kitchen. So thanks to eBay, I found one very easily!

  • Comprehensive, using ingredients that grandma used to use

I purchased this for my 90-year-old mother who wore out her original Betty Crocker cookbook years ago. She wasn't happy with the edition that was available (1982) when she needed a replacement. She missed the recipes i in the old edition. Her eyes lit up when she realized she had her old cookbook again, but brand new.

  • Great For New Cooks/Bakers

Great cookbook for the new cook/baker! I got this because my mother-in-law had gotten it from her mother-in-law many years ago. They are both gone and I worried the book would be out of print for my daughters. So much basic info and great old recipes. I wish my mother-in-law had given one to me when I was first married! She didn't. Hmmmm ...

  • A second chance .

When I found out that my sister had sold the entire contents of my parent's house - ( by way of Facebook), I realized that I would never be able to look at the cookbook that I taught myself how to make cakes and cookies out of ,---ever again. After a sad few moments, I realized that I could possibly get a copy on eBay. So I began my search. I decided against getting an actual 1950's 1st edition, because of the price, and fragility of those books. I wanted a "working" copy, so I opted for the 1998 reprint; authentic in every way, and in near-new condition as well. I also choose a 5 ring binder model,--- which is so much better to work from than the sewn-bound version that my mother had. I was then able to show my husband my favorite cookie recipe (Gingies); we had a good laugh, and he was very impressed with the photographs and illustrations in the book as well. Very soon, we will be enjoying a batch of those cookies ! So, thanks to eBay, and the kind vendor, I was able to make a silver lining out of a cloud.

  • A basic very good & useful cookbook.

My mother used this cookbook and I learned cooking from this book. It's an excellent cookbook with many helpful charts and tips. There are charts and suggestions for different types of meat. Also, there are lots of dessert recipes including quick breads, cakes, pies and cookies. There are great vegetable ideas as well. Tying al these recipes together are the many helpful pictures and introductions to the different. In all, a really excellent basic cookbook.

  • A Great Addition to Any Cookbook Collection

Awesome recipe book. A true trip down memory lane for those of us who were raised during a simpler time. The photos alone were worth the price. This book is a ring binder with very nice section dividers as well as index listings in the back. The recipes are those I remember from my childhood. A great addition to my cookbook collection.

  • How to cook from scratch

My mother had this book, possibly the original printing and I have provided a copy to each of my 3 children. I use it for many goods baked with flour, but it also has clear directions for meat, fish, fruit, vegetables and eggs. The 'coddled' eggs hard boiled from a boiling water start is the very best way to boil eggs. Every recipe starts with raw materials you can always get at a more reasonable price. Could be the best book to learn how to cook.
