Exactly What I Needed
My first requirement was a transport for CD sound to me external DAC. The CD mode and Pure output features set this unit apart. We were amazed at the video quality of some older DVD's upscaled to our 4K TV. The Yammy is quiet, looks good and works flawlessly. it is just ok
This unit is worth $ 159 exactly, if I ended up paying more, I would be disappointed... Unit has nice finish, with exception of central part , which is a tray. Finish on it is wobble, not straight. Made in China logo has to do with it. The think I expected less of anything is a great sound, absolutely incredible upscaling feature. When it comes to upscale a picture of regular DVD or Blue Ray format claiming to be close to 4K...I don't think so...its bring up a bit of color ..but that's about it, sharpness and contrast are behind of upscale process. So this unit perhaps is all about WI FI deal, but its not really for me. Still the way DVD tray looks bothers me, like it came from a different world..Price was right for this deal, you pay for what you got.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great multi disc player
This Yamaha BD-S681 Blu-ray disc player does an outstanding job of playing several types of discs, including 3D and regular Blu-ray, standard dvds. Cds, along with high definition music cds and Super Audio Compact Discs. Picture quality has been excellent with Blu-rays and it does a great job of upscaling standard dvd movies to high definition. Music reproduction is excellent for a Blu-ray player with the special cd mode, which shuts down the movie circuitry for the least noise and most pure play possible, as with a dedicated audiophile cd only player. The included remote works well and the unit, as a whole is easy to set up and use. Overall I am very happy with the quality and features of this disc player. It will make you want to add some sacd music discs to your collection, to experience the great music in detailed high definition. If your speakers are up to it, you will hear details in your favorite songs, that you haven't heard in the past.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Quality product but not cheap.

YAMAHA BD-S681
I have owned Yamaha cassette players which were top of the Market and still own a Yamaha sub woofer - great. So far I have played one Blue-Ray disk, a Mozart Opera. With Hafler DH200 and Polk S55s voices come out with incredible presence, volume and clarity, a pure delight. The 51 page (well presented) Owners Manual is testimony to the complexity and, probably testimony to the ability of the BD-S681. The remote has 51 buttons (so far I have used TWO) and the 9-element control center. I have connected to my router to possibly venture into the promised-land of the Internet.. We have Netflix but there is no clue how to other than buzz-bits like DLNA, NAS, BD-Live, 10BASE-T/100BASA-TX, DHCP ....... I have a DIPL ING, MSEE and DR TECHN, but I am an analog, not a digital person. I do not have a smart phone, do not text, tweet, face-book and use other means bypassing the human voice. What I find on the BD-S681 on U-Tube or GOOGLE, some in GERMAN (!), does not work without an interpreter. (not for the LANGUAGE, I speak it), YAMAHA promises technician assistance. So, in fear of not being able to ‘UNscramble’, after having touched a wrong button, I will remain a two-button user. And, for the price paid, 100% satisfied, as the BD-S681, in final analysis, and in the nude, IS a disc-player, And regarding voice and instrument reproduction as well as video and sound quality a very good one. Good value but....
.... lacks a backlit remote. Easy to set up; sound is good ( but not great like my SONY 777 ES player); not slow to load Blu Ray discs but not quick either. For the price I paid = $169.99, its a good value.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Not a 4 K up scaling blue ray player
