With its Sonic-influenced lead character and basic, jump-on-the-enemy action, Rocky Rodent is highly derivative. However, it does offer its own brand of uniqueness as Rocky sports a variety of lethally charged hairstyles in his arsenal, including the basic hairdo, the spike, braids, a mohawk, a spring, and a bird nest wig. Hair is not only used for thrashing an assortment of mobsters, rodents, and other obstacles in Rocky's path, but must also be wielded strategically to navigate otherwise unreachable areas. Further separating the game from the pack is a level that involves maneuvering atop speeding cars and trucks. The colors are a tad washed-out at times, but the game looks pretty decent otherwise. Musically, the game is akin to a good cartoon, and the sound effects are quirky and playful.
