Job would have gone t*ts up without it.
I felled a 35'-40' silver birch near my boundary. It was leaning over my boundary, backwards to the way I wanted it to fall because of growing in the prevailing wind on the top of our hill blowing it that direction. All geometry and common sense told me that it would fall across my neighbour's drive. As I started my chainsaw I could not believe I was doing this with an unknown and never used before plastic wedge. My father has a couple of dozen steel wedges but they do not mix with chainsaws. I cut the notch and then went to the back and put the saw in about six inches. I put the wedge in and was relieved it did not shatter. I cut some more, hit the wedge some more, checked the gap, still parallel. I cut some more and went on. Eventually, I hit the wedge and the gap started opening. You cannot imagine my relief. It was only this wedge that put the tree down where I wanted it, against gravity and a light head-wind. Five stars, definitely.
