Inexpensive American hotplate
I bought this for a project to make an electric smoker. I never really started the project as the person I was making it for could not use it. I have tried it a few times to boil water and use as an auxiliary burner, and it performs well.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Handy little hot plate
Since tungsten filament bulbs were taken off the market, I needed something to warm my oven for food drying and proofing bread (yep, those bulbs put out that much heat), and this fills the bill nicely. The thermostat in this unit is pretty sensitive so it does well maintaining the lower temperature I need. I have not had the control above "low," so I do not know how fast it boils water or cooks. The feet on it do not grip well, so care must be take to ensure the work surface is level or something holds the unit stable. For me, the main drawback on it is the element is not removable (unless I missed something in the instructions) so cleaning under the element is not easy. But that is not a big deal. Great burner at a great price.
The perfect burner. I fried an egg over easy as soon as I got it out of the package. Perfect. Has good heat and is fast heating up. I used Medium for my egg and it was too high. Medium/low will be used next time. I have a 12 inch iron skillet which may be a tad bigger. Looking to buy a 10 inch iron skillet which I think will be perfect. Perfect for small kitchen & very easy to use.
I haven't opened this one up, yet. I'm still using the one I've had for several years, now. I cook every day on my original single burner stove, and it's still going strong. No problems. I really like that it has a variable heat setting control knob...very easy to adjust while cooking.
