I heard an interview with Roger Norrington on R3 where he explained what he was trying to achieve with a modern orchestra playing as Dvorak and his contemporaries would have expected with fewer strings and no vibrato. The result is intiguing with the balance between strings and the rest of the orchestra more even details become clearer and speeds a little faster, notably in the largo, which is no bad thing. On the whole this is a fine performance in its own right and I hope other conductors will begin to follow this practice.
