Does make a difference.
My diesel Mondeo has covered 132000 miles and my independent servicing garage suggested treating the engine to a fuel system cleaner. They particularly warned against using the cheaper varieties that can be bought, and they said that in their experience only STP Ultra and another brand were worthwhile products. I've always been sceptical about additives, but decided to try STP Ultra 5 in 1. I believe it has made a difference to the smoothness of the engine. I used one tankfull's treatment before a 350 miles round trip and I'm sure the car's running better, in fact a slight hesitation that could sometimes be felt on acceleration has disappeared. As with all of these additives it is virtually impossible to accurately measure any benefit without the use of very sophisticated testing equipment. My car was parked up for 5 months so I thought I would take a chance that this actually does something positive. Not suitable for my VW Touran !!!
