Those who loved Lyra's story in the" His Dark Materials" trilogy will be enthralled by this next sequence of events in her adult life. It is so well written, moving, and thought provoking, But the story continues, and I like many I'm sure, am avidly awaiting the final conclusion!

As a connection between book one and book three I suppose it works. We won't find out until Mr Pullman pulls his finger out and writes the third book. On its own it is a slow burner, giving me a slightly disconnected, discordant feeling that things are not quite right on the storyline front. Maybe it was not having as many 'kitchen sinks' in the plot as were thrown into 'La belle Savauge' where I was not sure if he wasn't drifting off into the ramblings of dementia. It was nice to know Lyra was blonde. The end, left wandering around in a dessert was pretty much how I felt, but maybe that was the point. Still, an epic story well told. Richard Feynman had the view that a particle, in travelling from A to B, apparently in a straight line, actually took all routes simultaneously. This approach made quantum mechanics maths work. It seemed to work with 'His Dark Materials'. At mid-journey in this trilogy I am waiting for the magic to happen.Read full review

I'm not sure 'amazing' is correct as books are a matter of taste but this is the latest in Philip Pullman's Dark Materials series, which my son and myself enjoy. It was lower than the full price and it was delivered well packaged and in good time.
