  • Great book, great photography

Peter Lindbergh on Fashion Photography XL is a superb coffee table photography book. The XL version of the book is 34 x 23.9cm and has 440 pages. There is a smaller 40th anniversary addition, which is 21.7 x 15.6cm, which has 512 pages but I prefer the larger XL version, though I can understand why someone would want the smaller version, as it is much more practical to get out and view. Peter Lindbergh was a fashion photographer, who was known for his black and white imagery and has worked with some of the worlds top models. Lindbergh was very much a photo realistic photographer and often he did not dress up his models in fancy clothes or have much make up on. For me, his work has a idealised documentary almost cinematic feel, as he had a great eye for backgrounds and because his subjects stand out so well in the frame. The book, is very nicely put together being a hardback, the paper used is archival-quality and has satin/matt finish, which really helps accentuate the images. If I was to say a negative, it would be that several images cover 2 pages, which I am not really a fan of but this is not really over done. Lindbergh's imagery is wonderful and I would highly recommend this book to any photographer.
