  • Great trebles, prefer Aquila Alchemia

Aquila strings are unusual in the classical guitar strings market and Aquila Sugar strings are out of the ordinary. The top three treble strings are bright sounding, loud and have longer sustain than conventional nylon strings. The bottom three bass strings are thinner than normal nylon basses and sound great: but they aren't so bright and unusual as the treble strings, and I don't like the copper red appearance. There's an issue with squeakiness on the right hand with the trebles: they do squeak, at least for me, even in a set with a "squeakless" sticker, and though the squeaking wears off, it can be surprising especially if you move around where you play the strings with your right hand. I opted to swap out the bottom three bass strings with some Aquila Alabastro basses, that are more like conventional D'addario Pro-Arte E45ff carbon string basses, but kept the Sugar trebles because they are so loud and punchy. I've had a few issues with Aquila Rubino strings breaking randomly, but not with the Sugar strings. Overall, I think I prefer Aquila Alchemia, but these Sugar trebles might be the loudest nylon (non-steel) strings on the market.
