I used this on the pine floors in my last house and they were great even after 5 years . It does darken the wood a good bit and it looks lovely after 3 or 4 coats . I bought about 5 different Ronseal varnishes and used them on test pieces up to 4 coats and this stuff was by far the best look . Unfortunetely I cannot seem to buy this locally at any of the usual shops . The first coat will raise the grain as the varnish soaks in , flat this down with 120 grit paper and then you are ready for the second . You will not have to flat down much between the 2nd , 3rd or 4th coat . Looks lovely and is very hard wearing . It's poly , so the room you are doing will be full of fumes . The water based diamond hard stuff is alright , but it doesn't darken the wood down . The antique pine stuff with the tint in it always seems to leave brush strokes . This is the king of floor varnishes as far as I am concerned . Should also be good on furniture .Read full review

Ronseal Ultra Tough Varnish is well named .........it is ultra tough, with the 2.5 Litre can proving excellent value. The 2.5 Litre can is ,however, difficult to reseal once opened , and the Ultra Tough varnish attacks some metal fixtures , producing a white oxidation , "white rust"! Use carefully.
