Of course, events soon plunge Oakes into situations that require him to be a hero in spite of himself. Jack Cardiff directs this offbeat caper based on the John Gardner novel, reuniting with the star he guided previously in Young Cassidy.

  • Boysie Oakes - A Spy film of the Swinging 60's

For some reason this never became a popular film....Had a theme sung by Shirley Bassey; it was written by John Gardner (this being the first of his Boysie Oakes books); it had a good cast.... but somehow...it just didn't quite make it. Maybe the film stuck too close to the book and whilst the ending in the book of Boysie landing the bomber was great reading, it didn't translate so well when put on to the big screen. So the ending on screen just kinda fizzled out. Would have been interesting to see his sequels like Understrike and Madrigal transferred to film as they were probably better stories but it never happened. The Liquidator won't be to everyone's taste as it may seem a bit slow in places ... perhaps a bit dated in places.... but this was made in - and made for - the swinging 60's - so don't expect too much...But whatever - I like it.

  • Australian Bond !

Thoroughly enjoyed it! It was an innocent blast from the past. Bumbling idiot gets mistaken for cool slick killer and gets hired to do so for the government. So sub-hires real killer to do his hits until his reputation catches up with him. Very tacky bond’esk! Worth a watch.
