It's worth spending the extra money.
I had a 6" rule that cost less than £2. Whenever I dropped it the edges got rounder and rounder. The cheaper ones don't flex either which isn't handy if you're measuring something tight. However this Mitutoyo rule is amazing. It just shows quality. It's made from a hardened steel so it won't dent or chip. It's really springy and it just looks better. When my boss watches me work I always feel better when I'm using expensive tools because it looks better than cheap tools.
