Just poor quality all round!
Surprising for a German product but these tools are barely fit for purpose. The quality of the steel is woeful - try sharpening them and you will find the Gouges are all misshapen so getting a good bevel is impossible, the steel is not good quality tool steel so getting and keeping an edge is also almost impossible. The tangs are just rammed into the handles - some at at an angle to the handle so again sharpening and using is a nightmare. The answer as always is "don't buy cheap - buy the best you can afford". I only bought these as I do very little turning - I pretty much did what I had to do and they will now be consigned to some dark space and probably will not see the light of day again.
