This was to replace an owl monitor that I had stopped working. I have solar panels so I know when i am producing my own electricity. I am able to do laundry, dish washer etc. when I am producing my own electricity.

I bought the Owl energy meter to replace one that had failed (transmitter unit) after several years' satisfactory service. We use it to check output from PV solar panels in a convenient place (without having to go to the inverter or turn on computer-based monitoring). It would be better if it was more accurate at low usage levels - it rarely shows less than 200W even when less is being taken - and it would be very useful if it could tell whether the power is being imported from the grid or exported to it. As it is bi-directional you have to guess that, which is not always easy.

Replacement for an older product. works very well, enables you to track and reduce expenditure. Has only two problems, the instructions for calibration are almost unintelligible (I do have an engineering degree, still can't understand) and the sender and receiver tend to eat batteries. Everything else about the design and product is good - recommended.

Had one years ago but sold it. Mystery increase in electricity bill meant we need one again and now we're back in control. In may lack the wizardry of more up to date models but it's excellent value for money and there's not a function it doesn't have that we actually want. If there's a downside it's the six AA batteries required for it to work but you don't get ought for nought.
