This is a very interesting story that touches on the emotions of two key characters and their experiences before and after World War II and how their trajectories come together. It is raw and gruelling in places and gives great insights into military and domestic aspects as well as the inside story of the siege of St Malo just after the invasion of Normandy. Whilst it is gritty, it is a fabulous and compelling story. I really enjoyed it.

I have read All the Light We Cannot See before but I wanted to read this amazing book again. It recreates the lives of a young blind French girl and an orphaned boy in the German army and their brief meeting at the end of the war. Their lives and thoughts are brilliantly and compassionately described. There is no happy ending but nevertheless this is a life giving story.

A bit too American and farfetched for my liking. Charactisation pretty thin, and portrayal of ww2 sentimental.
