Maf 71cc Scooter
Ok,
I bought this because I wanted to be able to go offroad.
I already owned 2 genuine Goped scooters (a gsr40, and a gsr46), but they're really made for roads and hard trails at the most.
Now the Maf's engine is pretty nice, lots of low down power, and I found it very suitable for the areas I wanted it for. Superb torque and it pulls hard up the steepest of hills.
It's weak point in my opinion is the gearbox. In concept it sounds ideal, having the choice of a low gear for steep climbs, and the high gear for relatively flat areas.
The reality is I find the gearbox to be hard to use. It's not easy changing from first up to second. Even after tightening the gear change cable, as recommended by the sellers, it's still hard work. It takes lots of attempts before 2nd engages, and even then it feels like it's not properly engaged.
I'm considering removing the gearbox and changing to single speed as I think this would make the machine much easier to use and more enjoyable.
The scooter is pretty heavy, and it's not easy to transport, although the upside to this is it appears pretty solid and able to stand up to relatively hard riding.
It's not very expensive compared to the Gopeds, but it's not as refined as the Later Goped machines.
Would I recommend one?
Well if I knew then what I know now, I'd probably buy a used Goped gsr to be honest.
I've tried to like/love it, but that gearbox has ruined the experience for me.
