Overlooked Cinderella.....
I have owned all three of the wide to standard mm zooms. The most expensive is the XF 16-55mm f2.8 ($1200) and is the largest, heaviest, best built of the three that produces wonderfully sharp images. If you absolutely must have a constant aperture, fast f2.8 this is your only option and it is a good one, but expensive. The lesser expensive XF ($500+/-) is the XF 18-55mm f2.8-4. Includes OIS and takes sharp images as well, though not as sharp wide open as the much more expensive XF 16-55mm.
This XC 16-50mm (as cheap as $150 used) takes as sharp images as the XF18-55mm. You do give up a heftier build and a faster shutter, but the images are still beautifully sharp. If speed is not a must have, and you don't mind a plastic feeling build, but you do want crisp, sharp images, this will suit your need. It is the Cinderella in the cheaper gown that still looks great once you get past the covering. Great IQ, cheap build.
