A brilliant read and we'll researched
Part of the Shardlake series by a very readable and we'll researched author. All the books in this series can be read as standalone stories but once you've read one you'll want to read all of them. A great novel with an interesting twist in history.
Imagine what the UK could have been like if the Second World War had gone the other way. In 1940 Britain has signed a peace agreement with Germany. Britain retains its 'Empire' and Germany has retained its hold over virtually all of Europe. Only Russia held out. It is now in the early 1950's but despite the agreement, Germany has a strangle hold over Britain and is controlling its government. Many of the UK's well known Government ministers and characters from that era crop up in vastly different roles. And the German/Russian was continues.
