An excellent, original story
Women were key elements at Bletchley Park, until 1975 their contribution was kept secret, but they performed heroic, intellectually very challenging work. Under the guise of four of these girls getting together to solve a highly complex riddle and identify a psychopathic serial killer, the story behind it gets told. Most of these girls end up in banal jobs and "standard" domestic situations, the result of society trying to shoehorn reality back into pre-war values, instead of accepting that the ghastly sacrifice of war changes everything. There is a domestic violence situation that is dealt with by the friends, rather than by going to the police, reflecting another, darker, reality of our recent past. All those girls, and boys, deserve a medal, but like the liason teams that took the Ultra information directly to the military commanders, their efforts had to go unrecognized. I've seen this (and the sequel) several times, and its excellent production (the period clothes, cars, mannerisms) and moving story never cease to entertain me.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
