ReviewsThe Globe And Mail (Toronto) - Every once in a long while, the right director comes across the right project at just the right moment, and things so often discordant fall into perfect harmony., Total Film - A riot of saturated colour and delirious imagination, Ang Lee's adap radiates spirituality. But it's also a simple, thrilling and gently uplifting tale of a boy, a boat and a tiger. Take the plunge., Empire - To produce a coherent film from Martel's tricky novel would be achievement enough, but Ang Lee has extracted something beautiful, wise and, at times, miraculous.
Went also to watch the stage performance, undoubtedly well adapted. Casts are doubling up in the performance. The script overcome Pi’s soliloquy and monologue baby having other characters appearing seemingly in Pi’s hallucinations or imagination, thus the 8 months or so at sea were made lively and not partially emulating Hemingway’s THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA or falling into that concept. Those who have watch ANG LEE’s show, must try to get to the theatre when opportunity knocks. It’s entertainment at its best.
This is an engaging, original story. When he's on the boat with the tiger the tension and the excitement does not lessen. Great cinematography. Nice twist at the end, also. Worth five stars.
The book was great and the movie was fantastic. I bought it because there is so much to understand. It's easier to own. One of the best movies on reincarnation.
