    Be Aware

First, this product works well for my intended use i.e. communicating with my wife while I'm working in my detached workshop,150 ft away. You'll find however, once you receive the product that the "up to" 16 mile range is achieved only on a clear day, with unobstructed views (no hills or buildings) and line of sight conditions. Essentially a flat desert floor. The package denotes that cities and towns with buildings and other physical obstructions will likely experience a 1 mile or less of range capability. People who understand how 2 way Walkie Talkies operate already know these limitations, but for others, you only discover this after you receive the product. Good Walkie Talkie, just be aware of what you're buying.

Good and Poor - Depending on your needs and expectations

I bought this two pack of radios for use on a relatively small hunting lease ( 40 Acres ). I already had two other, larger and stronger radios. I thought this would be a decent add to the communications for other hunters on the lease. They are indeed compact and light weight, but you also sacrifice sound clarity and range. They also have the N.O.A.A. Weather channels, which I do like. They are promoted as 16 mile radios, ** and we all know that the range is figured in optimum weather conditions, across open water, at full batter power, with no obstructions that could block or hinder the signal path ** . Real world, in the woods, these radios have a few hundred yard range. They have a roger beep that you cannot turn off, and every press of a button makes a loud beep, so you will have to wear an earbud to keep the woods silent, and not alert any nearby game to your presence. If I was doing it again, I would have gone ahead and bought a better / bigger / stronger set of radios that also have a " silence mode ". You can buy these for 25.00 roughly, or get something a lot better for about 40.00. My next purchase will likely be the 40 mile or 50 mile ( again - NOT actual usable distance ) set in the Uniden line of radios, which run between 70.00 and 100.00 roughly. I also have some Motorola radios which have worked well, that were listed as 26 mile radios, which can be used comfortably across this particular hunting area, and have much better sound quality. I rated these radios as OKAY, because that's all they are IS okay. Not good or great ... just simply okay! Hope this review helps folks out.

  • OK, that's all.

For the price I bought these, sure, good deal, but if I were to have bought these new I would be disappointed. Weak signal. Volume not loud enough to get over stereo. Confusing functionality of the buttons too. An additional couple of buttons would have really simplified things. A one touch weather band access would have been nice too. But alas, there is a main function key to 'scroll' thru the options.

  • Good basic FRS radio

We use these radios for a church camp with about 150 children and youth, located in a semi-mountainous wooded area. Counselors using the radios report that they are simple to operate, have adequate coverage despite the terrain challenges, and have decent battery life when they remember to charge overnight. None of the first four radios had any problems, and we have just added four more. They work well together with the other FRS radios we already had, except that lack of privacy codes means that all radios have to have their privacy codes turned off.

  • Display is too small

Nice little unit with good signal, however the display is VERY small and changing the volume, channel, etc seems too complicated. Purchased the Cobra Micro Talk at the same time and it is a GREAT unit, big display, easy to operate the volume control and change channel, etc. For the money I would recommend the Micro Talk which is rechargeable.

  • You get what you pay for.

They run off of AAA batterys for about 2 days until they die. The performance really surpassed my expectations I think this is a must for all non profit groups, camping party's or family's who don't want to rely on cell phones for special events.

  • Great for communicating in two cars

Bought these for a two vehicle move cross country. They worked great and we never had to worry about bad cell zones. the only concern is we passed through many major cities and never was able to tune in a NOAA frequency.

  • Does not function correctly.

They worked well for the first few days and then quit. My wife and I use it in the house when she needs help but now it is of no use. I haven't as of yet gone to paypal to register my complaint it has been a very busy time for us.

  • Mini Cobra Walkies CX112

They work great within 0.80 miles but beyond this distance height is the only way to increase audibility. For the price, size, and weight I was absolutely amazed at how well they perform.

  • Works well for keeping track of my kids in neighborhood.

Great for the price. But, it runs batteries down quickly. They do not go 16 miles. Only about 6 blocks.
