Old but OK only consider it a WiFi device
The device is dated and of course Google doesn't support it anymore. Easy enough to get rooted though with online instructions and no aftermarket software is need to unlock the bootloader and get the thing rooted. Since I use Ubuntu, I was able to use adb and load the next Gen CM which is LineageOS without trouble. SuperSu and MultiROM go in very nicely. Only thing missing is the ability to use an an onboard micro SD memory card. The "phone thing" is a really big letdown. It's only for data period! So if one is going to be isolated (where there is cell phone coverage) it's just a link to the internet that's all. No voice phone service. There are instructions online about going through SIP but my subscription card only has data and texting available. Well, at least the Hangouts dialer will get a free call out in the US via WiFi so that's a consolation. The one I picked up was in immaculate shape. I suspect prior owner didn't like the fact it couldn't be used as a voice cell phone. I bet a bunch of people were disappointed about this. Me, I'm ok with it as I didn't want to whack my 2013 Flo iteration (WiFi only) to experiment. As it is, I have this one setup the way I want to and my whack the Lineage OS to my Flo device now. Again, a real big plus is ease of unlocking the bootloader and rooting without aftermarket "report back to China" software.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Okay but has auto screen rotation problem that is intermittent.
Okay but it has an auto screen rotation problem. I had to do a factory reset to get auto screen rotation to work but it is only a temporary fix. After much research I discovered that the Nexus 7 (2013) is famous for this problem and it can be anything from a bad board to bad cables or interference buy apps. Nexus 7 is a good phone substitute
I bought the 2013 Nexus 7 to replace my Samsung S4. By using Google's Voice and Hangouts I am able to have call and text ability with these apps and also full tablet features, which I use more often. This tablet fits in my rather large hands securely and fresh updates to Google Marshmallow keep the system secure and up to date. I didn't carry my previous phone on my person so this didn't cause a substantial inconvenience for me. In this case, size does not matter
I've been using an HP 10' tablet for the last year and it was my go-to tool for getting stuff done out in the field. But after a couple of hours, carrying it around became cumbersome and I began searching for another tablet. This tablet fit the bill perfectly. The performance is great and the LTE data is great when wireless is not in the area. It feels good in the hand but I purchased a folio to carry it and it works perfectly. Easy to carry and use, wonderful to look at and I expected to pay $50.00 more for this level of product. Like So Much I bought a Spare

Close but no cigar...
I had been under the impression that since this was a rooted Android version I could delete any apps that I didn't want. I find this is not the case. It is actually worse in that respect than my stock Google Nexus 7 running Android 6. The only thing better about it is that it does charge up faster (but the charge doesn't last any longer). Nexus 7 Oldie but Goodie
The Nexus 7 is the biggest tablet that fits in my shirt pocket. It has real GIS, LTE, good battery life, gorrilla glasses, etc.. There are a few tablets that have caught up on to the Nexus 7 gen 2 but they cost 4X as much.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
