    Compact but useful

I have been looking for a FLIR ( infrared camera ) for a while and most units are very expensive. While this unit is sub $300USD it works decently enough for what it is. I feel that it is slightly overpriced for the quality of the unit. The focus ring is crude and while it works it is difficult to get a clear picture. The software is easy to install and use, All n all I would recommend this unit to someone looking for a compact unit for their android phone or android tablet.

Probably as Good as it Can be Right Now

I have a professional Flir thermal camera. It cost several thousand dollars. So, I'm probably somewhat spoiled, yet I know what I would like this to do. It can sort of do it. It's good for verification of something that you already suspect. It's not so good for scanning a whole area since the field of view is very narrow and the resolution is still somewhat low, although better than anything else in this price range. If the resolution were doubled (4x the pixels), it might be more usable for doing things like scanning rooms for leaks, etc. I don't regret the purchase, though. It's better than one of those laser thermal detectors by a lot. You can save images, which is nice. In addition to further resolution increases, a hybrid thermal-RGB (regular color) image would be nice, or they can do something like Flir does with the outlining of features to make it easier to understand what you are looking at. At low resolutions, that can be difficult. With a very high res thermal image, it's not necessary. The Flir at this price range has a lower res, but it does have that feature. I do wonder if it is a better purchase. Overall, I have mixed feelings and I hope that in 2 years or so, I can upgrade to something more useful. It is a quality product and for someone new to thermal, they will probably be quite happy.

  • Innovation at the onset of mass adoption

I am impressed that product like that is available today (3/2016) at reasonable cost. It offers ordinary people conduct research at home, teach kids, learn about home insulation efficiency, vehicle thermal waste and much more. I wish that a year or two from today, the camera will have more resolution pixels, better focusing, more accurate temperature measurement and lower price. I wish that down the road, we shall have cameras capable to see other invisible things. UV light. Gasses, pollution.

  • new toy

This is new photography toy camera (Seek Compact 206 x 156 ) with some useful application: search in the dark the souses of the heat radiation (up to 100 meters you can see the something big as human size body). Also some home staff inspection. The lens is not fixed and need to be focused - but no any mark on the lens to set the infinity focus for example (I think, they just save the money this way - avoiding each unit calibration on infinity focus). The App you can use with this product - is only what they supplied - I did not find the 3-ed party apps for this product (I think, this is a proprietary issues - this product used the micro-bolometer from Raytheon - and probably obligated not to share some units parameters with 3-ed party). The app work good on Samsung J5 phone (2015 version). The constant auto ranging camera switch is annoying (Because it produce some sound click in the camera constantly, about 0.3 - 0.5 Hz frequency). But apps had just a basic futures and switching photo/video is not easy with fat fingers. The photos size is 1280x960 so the apps just make x6 digital resizing. Attached the reduced 3 time samples.

  • Excellent thermal camera for common and hobby use

Excellent thermal camera for the price. If you are looking for a thermal camera to inspect insulation on a house or find problems with circuits, or just take weird pictures of your pets, this is it. The resolution is low (it's a thermal camera after all), but the focus is adjustable and it is sensitive enough to make out details. There are multiple color schemes and display modes, including a very neat "display everything within a temperature range in color", useful for highlighting living things or cold/hot spots. Android application does not abuse permissions and does not require registration to use.

  • High Value for the Cost

I own this product for more than a week. The seek thermal gives a value of older but much more expensive designs. The usage is quite simple, you download and install the Seek thermal app from google play, and then you plug in the camera. I use it with my Samsung 3. I read people complaining there are compatibility issues with specific Android version, so please make sure you have the correct android version. I used it to isolate a power cable issue with my air conditioning system, just held the camera 12" away from the wires and seen the faulty wire glaring. I understand it could also be used to detect water pipe leaking by luckily I had no chance to prove it... One small thing. The camera is constantly ticking. The manual says it's a mechanical shutter and that it's perfectly normal for thermal imagery. However my technical experience is that mechanical stuff has a limited life cycle and hence I wouldn't recommend a prolonged or 24/7 usage.

  • Good, works with some USB-C adaptors

Good, works with some USB-C adaptors to keep the device further away from your hand on the phone, avoiding blocking the lens. The FLIR ones use an optical camera to do edge detection for overlay. That would be really useful and it isn't present here. No third party apps appear to do it either. But the resolution is high enough to usually make up for it. Also this one has a much wider temperature range than FLIR consumer models which is great for technical work. I have already been able to use this to identify dodgy electrical connections. I expect it will serve me well in designing my new custom furnace and in cryogenic applications.

  • Nice Item

IR cameras can be really (frankly, ridiculously) expensive, so having a reasonably priced item like this to fill in the lower end of the market is great. For household uses like looking for poorly insulated areas or air leaks, it’s just the thing. My Samsung phone already eats batteries and this attachment certainly doesn’t help, but overall they’re a functional combination that I can recommend.

  • SEEK IR camera works great

A fantastic piece of engineering. Works great. Helped troubleshoot a hot water recirculation pump and line issue. It has all the features that a much larger and many times more expensive IR camera has. Dynamic temperature measurements, photos and video. Just amazing for the price.

  • Too many phones don't work with it

I have a LG G6 and it would not work with it. Downloaded two different apps and had to by a micro USB to C USB to get it to hooked to the phone and it still would not work with this phone. I don't suggest getting one based on the phone accepting the app. It NEVER recognized the phone being attached. Works well with some phones but not LG
