No excuse for a dull knive!
I was frankly surprised at just how well this little knife sharpener works. I have used various other ceramic sharpeners in the past, and they all are capable of sharpening a dull knife. However, they all were much larger and not at all practical to carry in your pocket. I saw the Gerber two stage sharpener on-line and thought I'd give at a try. I have to say that I was very much impressed with its performance. I selected a dull paring knife and made six to eight passes through the side labeled coarse, followed by and equal number of passes through the fine side, and the knife was more than usably sharp. Since I have found that the Gerber sharpener works best if you steady it on a cutting board while you hold it firmly in the grip area provided. It doesn't require more than light pressure. t have tried it on various size knives from pocket knives to six inch kitchen utility and hunting knives and it works well. Pretty amazing for something not a lot bigger than a match book. A hole is provided to attach a lanyard if desired. I suspect that any hunter would find the Gerber sharpener a handy item to keep in a pocket.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Why so serious?
The only thing this sharpener is good for is keeping a semi sharp blade semi sharp. If the knife is dull you're better of breaking out the wetstones. I've noticed some put COO as United States but sadly they're made in China. Granted they are nice and small but you can't expect much considering they've gone to ceramic on both coarse and fine.
