RAT ZAPPER REVIEW
A friend in San Antonio introduced me to the Rat Zapper product over 10 years ago. Following his recommendation, I immediately bought one at the hardware store. I baited it with a small cracker with peanut butter on top. That night, I caught a mouse. The next night, another. Then another. As my friend told me, I would get home and immediately check my trap. Six nights straight I caught a mouse. BUT, like my friend also said, there comes disappointment time when my trap is empty. This product works great IF you inspect it each time to make sure there is no buildup of urine on the metal plates....just like San Quentin, the electrocution process sometimes involves body fluids that can cause a short circuit....if your trap quits working, try washing the floor by soaking it in perhaps 1" of water in the sink. Take the batteries out before you soak it and make sure you don't get the circuit board wet. After drying, the trap should be good to go again. I have about 6 of these things, the last one i bought only a few weeks ago. Usually after a year or so they stop killing rats and your are to wash the zapper, check batteries and you should be back in business. In my experience they just don't work anymore after that year. The one I just got killed one rat and one mouse and now it just feeds them my peanut butter in a plastic bottle cap bait, light comes on, no rat and no bait or bottle cap. If I got year out of it I'd be happy because most of the rats would be gone long before then but to last only two weeks is very expensive and annoying.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great zapper, and better than today's similar models.
This particular model (IR-triggered) was available before Victor bought them out and stopped offering it. I have used it for several years and the results were outstanding. I had a major chipmunk problem and this thing nailed 45 of them in about 4 weeks. No more chipmunks. And about 20 or 30 mice too. I have found that today's models are not IR-triggered, and they are very sensitive to being clean. This model here (IR-triggered) - not so picky.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Did the job
Had trouble with Rats in a outside shed and they were growing in number quickly because of the cold weather. I used these in the shed on the top rafters and shelves. Within a few minutes the lights were lit up red to let me know that the trap was tripped and I had a dead rat. It was so easy to throw away the dead rat and reload the trap without having to touch anything bad. Worth it
I've had a rat zapper ultra for about a year now. I just bought three more so I can cancel my orkin service. I've killed more mice with rat zapper in one year than orkin has poisoned in five. It is easy to dispose of the dead mice and one set of batteries will kill several of them. I also reuse the bait (chunky peanut butter) several times. I would add that new born mice could probably squeeze through the vents at one end. and also, i have to move the zappers around; as if the mice learn to avoid it if it's in one spot.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Not a single rat, or mouse
I've had this setup for at least 2-weeks up to this point and nothing. I have rat snap traps and TRex traps that are getting them but they wont go near this at one at all. I've purchased another brand of rat zapper as welll and nothing with that model either. No rats
I've had this unit outside, where rats are chewing on everything around my house. I've not had one rat go in the trap!
