Works Great, could be better.
To be fair this is only around $100 and it is a step up from the smaller cheaper units in the $30-$60 range in that it does have somewhat higher output. It works just as advertised and the automatic battery charge feature is quite nice. I like that I can see how much the battery is charged, and set up timed charging sessions if I need to.
Assembly was east enough too, or would have been if my little ones (father of three under the age of 5) hadnt dropped a few parts inside. This is where the disappointment starts. The case for this device is quite large. I expected most of the space inside to have been used up by a massive transformer and lots of electronics. When I opened it up to retreve the lost parts, I was surprised to see that what is contained inside could conceivably fit in a sace 1/3 the size. While it does put out more power and have more fetures than a basic portable unit, I dont see much of a reson why it needs to be put into this cart form factor.
Further research shows that this device shares much of it's case with the DY-1420. PSW-2035, SE-1520, SE-2352, SE-2352-CA, SE-3000 etc. Some of these cost a lot more others not as much. It may not be a bad choice for a home mechanic looking for something better than a basic benchtop model, but if a pro mechanic will need something more.
If you have a dremel and like to modify things, there is plenty of space inside to add a battery load tester (such as the schumacher PST-500) in the lower front panel. Considering that some load testers similar to the pst-500 are available on ebay for 50 bucks, it is disappointing that schumacher hasn't thought to offer an all in one charger and tester for a mere 50 bucks more than this unit.
