    Excellent Product and Excellent Seller

This particular product is really great. Thanks so a U-Tube video I've learned quickly and easily how to make great capuccinos and espressos. My husband is still using the old fashioned espresso maker for the stove top and I can make me Capu is just a few minutes. The materials that it is made of are top notch. I literally had one of these in the back of a closet for over 15 years and it is working like new and looking like new. I bought this one for our son and significant other and they love it. I feel like a real barrista now and it has simplified my mornings big time. The seller included some nice accessories that were greatly appreciated.

    Anatomy of a Good Coffee

Rancilio Silvia delivers relatively good coffee but in my opinion, the combination pressure/ temperature of brewing does not allow for extraction of rich crema from the coffee, even when using premium italian coffee blends.

  • The Real Thing! Professional components in a home machine.

I did quite a bit of research before making a decision, and my experience since then has done nothing but confirm that this is the right machine for our home. First, I like coffee that tastes like something. Second, I like things that work and have the quality build to keep on working. Our last machine got recycled after maybe 15 years of service because parts were no longer available. The catch is that when we needed a repair only 7 years in, we were told that many parts weren't available then either. We could only achieve a fix using used parts. Re quality of design and build: this is a low tech machine built like a tank! The parts are said to be the same ones used in Rancilio's professional machines. Just pick up the portafilter, and you can feel the weight and the way it holds the heat and this becomes easy to believe. To take off the plastic protective film, I ended up taking a peek inside, and boy everything looks simple, accessible, and solid in there. So the build quality is a big check. The fact that there are units out there decades old, and that the parts should remain available for decades to come (barring catastrophes that are always possible), and I am delighted just to see and touch the unit. Re the coffee: This is a solid but basic no-frills machine. It is massive, (not overly large, - just heavy because there is a lot of metal in there), and the temperature controls are simple high limit switches rather than digital processors. You grind the coffee yourself, tamp it yourself, and pay attention to getting the temp right yourself. ((I.e, draw out enough water for the heating light to come on, and then wait for it to go off before drawing your shot. This is not a big deal!) How well you make the coffee using this machine will make obvious differences in flavour and finish. That being said, I've even found my 'mistakes' to be quite drinkable. And the times I get the grind and tamp right, and the pour comes out perfectly, - well it sure makes me lose interest in going out for a lesser coffee. Bottom line: If you are willing to put in the effort and time, this is a classy machine that should last a lifetime and turn out great coffee. (& if you aren't, get something more automatic!) Bottom line re value: My research ahead of time convinced me to spend about double what I had originally intended, and my experience afterwards leads me to have absolutely "0" regrets; - only daily pleasure! For me, it is very much worth it!

  • Quality Machine (you get what you pay for)

A great machine so far. I haven’t had any major issues thus far and the espresso tastes great! The availability to consumers of OEM spare parts caused me to lean towards this particular brand as opposed to an all in one like the Breville BES870XL. You really need a decent burr grinder to make this work as intended. I highly recommend if you are looking for your machine to last more than a year or two and you don’t mind the possibility of doing your own repairs someday in the future to reduce costs.

  • Ranchilio Silvia

Do you want a manual way to draw excellent espresso. This machine is for you. Dial in your grind on the Ranchilio Rocky. Wait for 20 mins to heat up machine. Hope for 9 bars of pressure, surf for temperature. Weight 18g in, Lock your 18g VST basket, look for 36g out at 25secs. You should have a great shot of espresso.

  • great quality

#1- A local barista told me when setting a machine (sipping spro after spro) you will want to drink more straight water than espresso... save you from disorganization in the stomach . #2- My first spro pulled for 90 seconds. I keep the tamp the same every time, some say 15lbs. but I do 30lbs. The brew time I adjust by grind. I dose my grinds by weight. I do 18 grams of coffee and 27 grams espresso but it will vary:[ I think the temp surfing methods on internet are to cold. Flush your machine and when the boiler turns on turn on the timer and shut off the brew simultaneously. At 40 seconds flush it for 3 seconds, put on the portafilter (I like to tamp during the 50sec.) and start pulling your shot at 50 seconds and try to end at 1 minute 17 seconds. #3- If you have your friends over for coffee you don't want to temp surf. A pid control kit found here on Ebay will take almost all inconsistency out of your shots. #4- The steam is a little wet but is powerful. The drip tray is small but you can easily plumb it to the sink. The steam wand is low but a 2"x10"x12" piece of stained hickory will work. The tamper is less then usable. You probably understand I love the modded silvia.

  • Great machine.....get a grinder to get best use

I've had several espresso machines over the years and I have to say this is my favorite. It's oldschool elegance and simplicity appeal to me. The powerful frothing wand makes perfect micro-foam every time. The machine heats up quickly and the beautiful stainless steal exterior makes for easy clean up. My only suggestion is that you will need to get a grinder so as to adjust the grind in order to get the best shot of espresso. Pre-ground Lavazza or Illy from the canister is not fine enough for this machine. It comes out to quickly and is watery, like American coffee. The rich bold espresso flavor is missing when I used those products. So, be prepared to pay $150 or so for a grinder but you will be rewarded with some amazing espresso and crema.

  • Best single boiler maker that exists!

Built like a tank, attractive and easy to use. Not finicky like some people say. You have to have a good bean grinder though capable of extremely fine grinding or the espresso will taste nasty. I had a 100 dollar grinder and even on the finest setting the espresso tasted yucky and I was discouraged thinking it indeed was finicky. Then I purchased the Rancilio doserless grinder and on a setting of 8 and using this machine it made the best espresso I ever drank and the results are consistent once you have the grind you need.

  • good value but needs pre-heat

Its a good machine for the price. The one watchout is that you need to run a shot of two through it on empty before use so hot water heats the internal workings....otherwise your espresso is luke-warm.
