Have some old alloy wheels which needed a complete refurb, after spending around two and a half hours on each wheel they were down to the bare alliminum. I applied two coats of hammerite special primer which being water based was very easy to apply. I then waited 24 hours before applying hammerite smooth silver, they have come out looking like they've just left the factory. I will now need to wait for around 2 weeks for the paint to completely harden.

Main problem was the packaging! It was wrapped in a layer of bubble wrap which had allowd the contents to leak out so that I could not read the instructions. I went to the local Homebase and bought a tin of the Hammerite Thinners which did not thin the paint at all or clean the brush. Water would have been as effective! Perhaps the obscured instructions on the can said not to use with this primer. I will not buy paint of any sort on line again.

A very good primer for non-steel metals as a pre-treatment before using Hammerite topcoat paints. Requires frequent stirring if used in warm weather, to avoid thickening.
