  • Great idea, awful execution.

The biggest issue is that the controls clearly haven't been designed for the PS4 - everything needs to be slowly selected and dragged in a way that suits a mouse but feels awful on a controller (try targeting something in a hurry, which you're always in, because every level is timed). Second biggest problem is that the game has no idea how to teach you to play it, a huge failing in a 'play through once' game. In the prologue, I was caught by a guard. Started again as it felt unfair, got past the guard, only to trigger a cinematic where another guard caught me, leaving me totally nonplussed as to the control I had and what, if anything, I'd done wrong. Near the end of a chapter, it becomes clear what you could've done earlier, but now without the time to accomplish it. Again, worsened by a smug low-tech aesthetic with floppy discs and huge keypad doors - a nice idea in a game that makes controls clear, but even more confusing in a game that won't tell you the controls. Lost one objective because I had an email that needed to be on a floppy disc to be printed, rather than printing from the computer. Clearly designed with too much pride in its 'hands off' approach. The same issue is present in the story - it's not clear what's happening or really why, which in another game might be fine, but works against you when you're gathering evidence to stop... an Act? End of the first 1/4, I still didn't know what the Act entailed or why it was so bad. That said, prologue begins with one character narrating in their head and then first level switches to another character having an online conversation with them. Figuring out who you're even playing as is task 1.
