418play Great for Home Media Center
This Synology was easy to setup, has the horsepower to do all the activities I need and essentially functions as my personal cloud. Replaced an old NAS that had been in use for over 10 years. My DS418Play was very easy to setup and the selection of apps make it a really great product! Upgraded to 6GB of memory and the memory optimization is excellent. Hardly ever goes beyond 50%. Bumped up the fan speed to it highest setting and not only does it keep the HDDs at around 73 F it’s really quiet. Use the media and iTunes Server and several other apps. Third Synology NAS and still loving them.
Love the flexibility of the unit. I use it as my Plex Media server as well as the TimeMachine backup drive for multiple Macintosh computers in my house. I am planning on getting a couple of security cameras and using it to record that data. I know I have only scratched the surface regarding the things the Synologys can do. This is actually the third Synology I have purchased. Nice box for storage
