  • Economical, easy set-up, little maintenance used with power heads fit into risers.

I have used these for over 45 years, and have no problems once my tanks are set up. The eco system created with these is the healthiest you can have. I have had tanks set up for over 10 years and not torn completely down. If you do not have power heads, you can use the air lines and air stones inside the risers and they work just as well, but you have to have an air pump, that sometimes can get noisy. These are great as they snap together and stay in place. Using the two to two and a half inches of gravel is essential. I do not know of anything negative about the system. I would recommend it to everyone, especially if just starting out with an aquarium. Most people will start a tank up then change out water too often, not letting the eco system get built up. This is why many have trouble keeping the water clear and lose a lot of their fish.

  • Old School Aquariums.

I have been doing aquariums for a hobby for 40 years. Not as many people use a U/G filter. I do. Instead of vacuuming the substrate and doing a partial water change I just siphon from the U/G tube and replace the water. Plen-Plax is a superior product and I have used them for years. I like the over and under plates best. This filter is strong and holds up for years. I guess I am Old School cause I still believe these products work. They make your water changes simple....and no disturbing the gravel!!! Great Product!!!

  • Terrific Quality and Price-Fast Delivery Too!

Very nice quality for a sub-gravel filter. Better than most you can get in stores. I augment all of my tanks using canisters with these as it seems to control the nitrates better with both running. Also excellent for clearing particulates, making the water very clear. I find plants grow even faster when in use, contrary to what I was concerned over. This one too is easy to adjust size for large tans or odd shapes. Great product!

  • Awesome!

For the price you cant beat this product! I always thought you needed a powerhead for an undergravel system, my air pump works just fine. If you want to see how this works look it up on youtube. Be careful though when breaking the tabs off of the blue plate the plate is made of thin plastic. The flow will be much faster if you dont use the charcoal filters, they dont do much anyways.. Very happy with this product!

  • Better than I thought

The item came as it's descrive on the site and it come with all the plumbing needed I also realized that two of the tray filters of the 55 gal will also fit a 20 gallon long tank there is a 6 1/2 inch gap and the tubes are a bit long but they could be shotern out but overall I'm happy with the product I'll be using this set for my 40 gal the pictures are from a 20 gallon tank

  • FILTER

This is by far the best filter that I have. I have had a few tanks, with all the filters now. In tank, over tank, and now the under gravel is tops to them all. The water is so much clearer, the fish seem much happier, and best of all, there is no need for all the wires everywhere. The only down side I can see is that each air tube needs a separate air pump to get the right amount of pressure to keep the clean tank. That is a lot better then two filters hanging on the back or in the tank taking up space with the air line. This only takes the air line. All three filters are taken in this one. BIO= the rocks on the bottom is collecting all the yuk stuff which is filtered out through the rocks removing all the extra stuff. Natural= the air through the tubes. CHEMICAL = the charcoal at the end of the tube where the clean water comes out. This is to assure that the water is of good clean and yuk free for the fish to enjoy. If you are a busy person, like me, this is the filter for you. Hook it up, feed the fish daily, and you are good to go for two weeks to four weeks. No more changing bags, or charcoal every other day, week, or whatever. Hook it up, you are done and on the go once again. I would buy this again for any size tank from a one gallon Beta Tank, ot a 150 gallon professional tank...

  • Quality undergravel filter

This is a good sturdy filter that doesn't bend in as bad as some brands do. The 40 to 55 gallon model consists of four plates with uptake stems and airstones. It takes three plates for a 40 gallon tank. They cover most of the tank bottom except in front. 3/4" CPVC can fit into uptakes if you wish to modify them. Plates may be joined or used singly.

  • It worked.

For my use it actually can be used in two tanks. Not as good as the old metaframe undergravel filters, but better than most.
