Easy, direct replacement, and known reliability
Bought this unit to replace the same model InSinkErator that had be in service for 30 years. The old unit seemed to have a little beefier construction, but the essential components are the same, just updated to reflect modern manufacturing methods. The galvanized steel basket and blade plate finally corroded through and started to leak on the old unit, but the motor itself was still running strong. The new unit looks comparable in construction, with the same internal galvanized basket, etc., so I'm expecting this to last well beyond the warranty, due to it's basic simplicity. Unlike a lot of the newest models with all of the bells and whistles and complicated electronics and controls, I prefer being able to just flip the switch, it does it's job, and I flip the switch back off. Seriously, does anyone really NEED a $400 disposer? This unit is their mid-line model with the 1/2 HP motor, and at less than $100, is perfectly adequate for everyday home kitchen use. A special note concerning perceived noise: A lot of It depends upon the gauge / thickness of your sink, and how well the sink itself is mounted, which is highly pertinent to the 'quietness' level. A heavier sink, mounted to a solid countertop correctly, and this unit is as quiet and vibration free as you could want.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Tendency to rot out and leak.
Medium priced disposal, what would call a contractors grade. I've had several of these and they lasted three to five years. Usually they rot out in the grinding chamber, causing a leak that's not noticed until the cabinet floor is ruined.. I suggest keeping a small pan under them, on the cabinet floor. Easy install
I currently had this model installed when I built my house in 2005 and it lasted 11 years before showing signs of going bad. The new one was an identical match and installed easy and quickly, did need any special tools. Only thing I was unaware of was that the connection port for the dishwasher line needed to be drilled out. Great disposal!
This is a great garbage disposal. It was installed in just 30 minutes. It replaced a Sears Kenmore 0.5 HP unit. The drain-sink-mounting was exactly the same and in great condition so the old mount was re-used and left in place. I re-used the power cord so that is why I purchased the unit without the power cord. The old disposal lasted about ten years and is possibly still good! The rotors are absolutely stuck and will not rotate. I haven't investigated the problem or tried to rotate it mechanically. External GFCI was tripped. I believe I know the problem. It is possibly a scouring pad stuck in there somewhere. Anyway, the new disposal works great and is quiet.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Easy to Install

Good Badger
I bought this badger5 to replace my tired, 9 yr old badger. New one is quieter and turns faster. And it doesn't smoke and smell bad like my old one.
