Great classic saddle, keeps you comfortable for lots of miles.
I've had this saddle on previous bikes so I knew what I was in for. I'm a fairly big guy (6'1", 220 lbs). Recently I have tried many different saddles and basically came full circle back to this one. I usually ride 100-150 miles a week for most of the year, sometimes pushing closer to 200 miles. My bike is a surly cross check with drop bars, I usually ride with with my hands up on the brake hoods and only go down into the drops if I need a break or if I'm going into the wind, so my riding position is fairly upright. So far I have about 200 miles on the saddle and it's beginning to feel real good. I love the feel of the leather, I did try the brooks cambium c-17 which was just too hard for me, the b-17 leather is the perfect balance between support and a soft feel. I made myself a waterproof cover that I keep in my bag in case the weather gets really wet so I'm not concerned about the leather and the rain (I keep fenders on my bike for about 9 or 10 months of the year, it's Seattle and it rains). I keep the nose of the saddle tilted up a bit as many b-17 users do. It's a great saddle, I love the way it looks and as time goes by it only looks better.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Beat up item
It had more than a couple of scuffs! It was really beat up. I put some superglue on top of the damaged river to prevent it from damaging my clothes. I’m just pretending it is a broken in loved seat and hope it breaks better for me. It is Brooks! The most comfortable saddle I've ever owned. I've been riding bicycles for over 30 years and this is the most comfortable saddle I've ever owned. It was comfortable from the very first ride. If it gets better once its broken in like everyone says then it should be excellent down the road. Looks great too. Downsides to this saddle is that it should not be used in wet weather. Also these saddles are not super light so if your a weight freak you might want to loose a couple pounds to make up for it. Classic seat
I've used Brooks seats most of my life, starting with one largely by accident in the 80s. Now I have them on all my bikes aside from my mtn bikes. For my butt, they are simple comfortable from the first even on very long rides & climbs. Rarely an issue with any chaffing or such. That said, your butt bones need to fit the seat; that is very important. And is one reason women often don't like them. And they take a bit of maintenance in the form of weatherproofing periodically, and also tensioning. Ahhhh. A Brooks B-17.
There has never been a better saddle to fit my large butt (pelvis "sit bones"). Even using a gel saddle pad will not correct a saddle that is too narrow. The Brooks B-17 looks like it is uncomfortable. I can tell you for a fact that it is just the opposite. My Brooks B-17 is like an old friend, whether right out of the box or broken in. Comfortable - to a point
I installed the saddle on my 1992 Raleigh Sport with nose very slightly down, and have ridden it twice - 2 days apart - for an hour, comfortably and with zero numbness in the jewels. After about an hour and 15 minutes, though, sit-bone soreness set in with a vengeance.
