Functional but dubious construction.
This 16lpm 32kW lpg water heater is to replace a more expensive one that failed after four years trouble free use.
As parts weren't available this makes for a cheap stopgap.
Cheap is the keyword here.
The structure is so lightweight that I am concerned the weight of the aluminium flue pipe is going to distort the frame of the heat exchanger.
Don't get me wrong. This is easy to get working even in a permanent arrangement. Apart from bending, fitting & soldering a new section of copper gas feed as the supply was in a different position, the whole install took under an hour.
That included removing the original unit and a manometer test.
There's no overheat protection on the heat exchanger and the flue runs hot.
It doesn't deliver the claimed 16 litre/min rate of flow advertised at the hottest setting. The flow rate is less than my old 12 lpm heater
I do like the temperature gauge as I can ramp it to 54°C which is not the maximum, but should keep the exhaust temperature a little less.
This certainly is not an efficient device. Despite the attached label stating Level 2 *China Energy Level* which makes me think of the items marked CE that refer to China Export and not the European standard.
I'm fairly sure the screen printed graphic Low Ventilation warning across the front fascia is a loophole to permit sales in the UK.
But for slightly less than the retail cost of a single metre section of the flue pipe it is attached to, this is a cheap option to provide hot water without having to spend several hundred pounds that we don't have in the middle of another lockdown.
I'd initially recommend these by my first impression. But with several safety considerations that will be necessary if you don't want to asphyxiate or burn your ceiling or the wall its mounted on.
I strongly suspect my Gas Safe lpg registered friend would refuse to install one in any property.
The fact it comes supplied with a short barbed 1/2" gas connection is indicative of a temporary appliance for use in sheds or open buildings.
If you have more money, and you value life and property this may not be the option to choose.
If you are a competent adult with appropriate plumbing skills this is an interesting appliance that does what it says on the tin. (tin being very appropriate).
Four generous stars because it does work well out of the box.
