Alternative touring shifters
Most of the serious 1990's/2000's steel frame touring bikes were supplied with bar end levers as original equipment and seemed to think that's what riders required. Ok if you spend all day close to the brake levers and 'on the drops' but they need a special long inner cable for the rear mech (complete with extra friction which will spoil crisp indexed changes) and cause an extra drag on the steering movement. Tourers of previous times used downtube levers, like these. As usual with Shimano, beautifully made, and inner cables are included. As long as your frame has the correct down tube braze on bosses to take these, I consider it a well worthwhile alteration. The hand reach down to the levers becomes second nature - I've never found that with bar ends; and that helps when you're at the end of a touring day with a full load on.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
