The 1964 Proof Kennedy Half Dollar was the first year of issue for the series. Examples without cameo or deep cameo surfaces are the most common. In grades up PR68 or lower they are easy to obtain. With cameo surfaces they are much scarcer. And with deep cameo surfaces they are even more scarce in all grades.
Proof 68 is about as high a grade as you can go non cameo. Making the population of this grade very small indeed. Not to mention it is also the only year for 90 % silver all the rest of the series that were silver were 40 % silver. And I may have to get it upgraded as it has accented hair lines above the air which give the appearance of more hair making the coin worth more.

I purchased this PF 1964 Kennedy Half because it was very well represented in the auction I attended and it is of the "Straight G" or "Transitional" variety graded and certified by ANACS. To my knowledge ANACS is the only grading service that recognizes it as a variety. I think it is very unfortunate for Coin Collectors that NGC and PCGS do not, as in my opinion and that of others, it is easily as significant as the "Accented Hair", the "No FG", and the "1974 DDO" varieties in the Kennedy series. I personally enjoy collecting this coin as I feel it is presently flying under the radar of most Collectors.
Only year you can get a 90% kennedy proof half dollar. No collection is complete without it.
