Great representation of the civil war
I thoroughly enjoyed these movies. I read the book Killer Angels which the film Gettysburg is based off of and I was completely hooked! Watching the movie was moving and entertaining. Gods and Generals / Gettysburg
Gods and Generals is the most historically accurate retelling of the events and characters of The War Between The States ever produced, true to history. The research that went into making it accurate is amazing, a lot being actually word for word from history. Not only was the story retold accurately, all the little nuances were correct (down to it being filmed in the correct seasons of the year) and the actor Stephen Lange researched Stonewall Jackson (whom it was largely about) so well before playing the part that it was him in every facet! Hu-rah that this is the truth retold and not what you were taught in school as what was rewritten! If you want real truth, this is it, very dramatically done as it and the persons really were and portrayed as if you were really there. Not a dull moment if you have an ounce of brains and an interest in such things. Gettysburg was good but not as good in my opinion. The causes of the war were not as accurate and leaned towards being the more politically correct modern view and Lincoln not portrayed as he really was. I enjoyed Robert Duval's portrayal as Robert E. Lee (Gods And Generals) better although. When I saw Martin Sheen's portrayal (Gettysburg) years before "Gods And Generals" was made I thought it was the best for that time! Actually the two movies were made out of sequence historically but God had the timing for the right actors who played the right parts at the right times. Great Depiction of the Civil War
I live in Gettysburg. Unfortunately, the Civil War was extremely bloody. It was about SLAVERY, even though Southerners such as General Stonewall Jackson always emphasized that “it was God’s call”. It was “to defend Virginia, his homeland”. Fortunately for the future, the battle was won by the U in USA: UNITED. If U had fallen, North America would have repeated the bloody history of Europe — but only for a while. Most of the territory would have fallen back to Britain; a part would have fallen back to Mexico (with help from Britain and France).
